Rimantadine hydrochloride (Flumadine hydrochloride) is an orally active inhibitor for M2 protein, that blocks the hydrogen ion channel activity, prevents the entry and replication of the virus, and exhibits board-spectrum antiviral activity. Rimantadine hydrochloride (0-10 μg/mL, 72 h) inhibits the RNA levels of hepatitis A virus (HAV) in Huh7 and IHH cells with IC50 of 6.7 and 1.6 μg/mL[1]. Rimantadine hydrochloride (0-10 μg/mL, 72 h) increases the expression of the autophagy marker LC3, inhibits the phosphorylation of mTOR, increases the number of lysosomes, and promotes autophagy in HAV-infected Huh7 cell[1].
