Magnesium silicate (Activated magnesium silicate) is an orally active compound composed of magnesium oxide (MgO) and silicon dioxide (SiO2). Magnesium silicate can be used in the preparation of food additives, antacids and anti-ulcer agents. Magnesium silicate is also a piezoelectric biomaterial, deodorant, decolorizing agent and antifungal agent.
Magnesium silicate can release magnesium and silicon ions, promote the differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into osteoblasts, and the combination of magnesium silicate with various polymers can improve the osteogenic properties[1].
Magnesium silicate (Oral administration) is neutralized in the stomach to form magnesium chloride and silicon dioxide, and some magnesium is absorbed[2].
