overview
α-asarone, alias asarone, α-asarone, Asarone. Chemical name: 2,4, 5-trimethoxy-1-propylbenzene, is the main active ingredient of the traditional Chinese medicine Acorus calamus (AcorigramineiRhizoma). It has sedative, anticonvulsant, antiasthmatic, expectorant, antitussive, antispasmodic, choleretic and other effects, and has different degrees of inhibition on the growth of pneumococcus, Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The extracted monomers have received good results in clinical application to pneumonia, asthma, grand epileptic seizures, etc.
